SUGGESTED MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT:
General Conference Announcement:
Hello.
I have information about the GSM+ Conference for all LGBTQ sober people in during Pride Weekend in New York in June. There's speaker meeting, step workshops, fun activities, and because fellowship is an important part of the program, it’s a great way to connect to community! Talk with me after the meeting. Thanks for letting me be of service.
RELEVANT INFORMATION TO COMMON QUESTIONS:
*This event can be announced anywhere other roundups or retreats or recovery related events are announced.
All LGBTQ people are invited to participate.
*Gay & Sober Members - The Conference is a 12 Step fellowship event.
MOST IMPORTANT: IF THIS EVENT IS NOT ANNOUNCED IN MEETINGS, THEN NEWCOMERS AND OTHER MEMBERS WILL NOT KNOW ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS, SERVCE OPPORTUNITIES, OR THE EVENT ITSELF. AN EVENT THAT HELPS PEOPLE STAY SOBER ON PRIDE WEEKEND. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO SHOW UP TO YOUR LOCAL GROUPS BUSINESS MEETINGS AND ADVOCATE FOR RECOVERY RELATED ANNOUNCEMENTS.
At a typical business meeting, anyone can make a motion for a script change to include recovery related announcements. If the motion passes, it can then be announced for 4 weeks that there will be a motion voted on at the next business meeting. It's at that business meeting that the final vote will be determined. However, one can always make a motion to forgo the 4 week process of announcing the potential change. If a group decides to skip the "4 week/next business meeting" practice, they are within their right as an autonomous group to make that decision for themselves. Doing it this way will help prevent gatekeepers/old-timers - that resist change, to have the 4 weeks to campaign and rally their friends to show up at the next business meeting to vote against the motion.
Just like the LGBTQ Center in NYC, Spring Clearance or some other roundup, all are 501c3 nonprofit organizations that have one thing in common - they all facilitate 12th step work.
*As described in the long form of AA's 3rd Tradition, and like meetings at other Roundups, the main AA meetings at the GSM+ Conference by group conscious declares itself an AA group. There is a separate 7th Tradition and that collection is donated to the AA General Service Office. To see proof from AA GSO, click here.
*As described in the long form of CMA's 3rd Tradition, and like meetings at other Roundups or Retreats, the main CMA meetings at the GSM+ Conference by group conscious declares itself an CMA group. There is a separate 7th Tradition and that collection is donated to the CMA World Services in Los Angeles.
THIS CAN BE ANNOUNCED IN MEETINGS.
